What Piano Practise Is

Piano practise is an exploration of some work, or a section of that work, using a method or technique of exploration that is taught during piano lessons, to achieve a specific goal.

Here’s a short reminder of what piano practise is

  1. Correctly shaped hands.
  2. Different from playing a piece.
  3. Repetition.
  4. Good posture.
  5. Short slots with breaks in between.
  6. Playing gently without banging on the keys.
  7. Playing correctly from the very first.
  8. Paying attention to what you do.
  9. Thinking and problem solving.
  10. Making something better than it used to be.

Piano students need to ‘practise’ as well as ‘play’ the piano daily. And to learn to schedule their practise effectively so that it’s relaxed and comfortable. Here’s a post with to help you schedule piano practise effectively.
