The Value of a Fixed Lesson Schedule

Lessons are always conducted at the day and time slot of the student. This policy works well because of the reasons listed below.

  • Students get enough time to practise so they get the best out of their lessons.
  • Students learn better because I get time to study and upgrade my teaching.
  • Planning vacations and family activities is a lot less scheduling for everyone.

Daily Practise

Please set a schedule for daily piano practise because this is compulsory.

  • 5 days practise with 2 non-consecutive holiday/s each week is good.
  • Practise holidays are good and a weekend holiday each month is recommended.
  • Mini Practise Sessions on busy days will help you keep the learning going so you pick up quick when your schedule settles.

Attendance

Your lesson time is reserved for you so please attend on time and get your full lesson. Parents who don’t sit-in on lessons – please talk to me during the beginning of the lesson when you need to. Or call during the phone call hours – published here.

The post-lesson time slot is used for teaching notes, to update your progress sheets and to send your important messages and schedule reminders. And then to wind off and move to other commitments.

Please be respectful of my working hours and leave your lessons on time. Teaching you is a bright happy colour in my day. Having a balanced life with room for different colours helps me teach with patience and give you my best.

Privacy Policy

  • Student information is confidential and student identity is kept private.
  • Performance and lesson videos that are suitable may be published publicly on social media, edited to cover faces for privacy and with student initials only. Students may opt out of this by sending me an email during registration or at any time.
  • Videos and images of studio events are sent jointly to all student families for their own personal viewing, unedited.
  • These rules apply to all studio events unless they are public events or students have filled in a consent form for unedited use of videos that reveal their identity.

Piano Examinations

  • Examinations are optional and students may choose to study with or without them.
  • Students may choose to appear for piano exams through Trinity College London, ABRSM, LCM or MTB.
  • Students living in India will book their examinations through Anitaelise Piano Studio.
  • Students living out of India will book their examination directly and enter details of Anitaelise Piano Studio in the ‘presented by’ or ‘teacher details’ field. They will send me a PDF image of their report and certificate afterwards.

Public Performances

Please remember that what sounds wonderful to a student may be just ‘barely ready’ with a lot of rough edges that need to be sorted out with further practise. Students will therefore need my approval before they participate in any music events or public performances.

The Role of Piano Parents

  • To help children plan a daily schedule which includes study time, piano practise time and play or relaxed time. It’s important for learning, that activities are spaced well with nothing-to-do time and time to just BE.
  • Follow guidance on adjusting piano bench height because the wrong seat can restrict physical movement of the hands and arms and lead to stressful learning and anxiety when students practise daily, and their hands don’t cooperate.
  • Be a part of the goal setting exercise in piano lessons and ensure that learning goals correlate with the quality and duration of your child’s daily practise. This is important to ensure that the pace of your child’s learning is enjoyable. Always remember that high goals only motivate students who practise and actually cause anxiety to students who don’t have practise enough.
  • Assist your child with his/her responsibilities towards piano lessons, gradually easing away as your child gets older and learns to manage these with some independence.
  • The Role of Preschool Piano Parents:
    • Attend every piano lesson and be attentive because your child needs a high level of support to learn at this age.
    • Read books in the piano parent lending library so you understand my teaching approach.
    • Be present during daily piano practise and help your child incorporate movement and exercise in daily piano practise using ideas taught in piano lessons.

Should Parents Attend In-Studio Lessons?

Children above age 6 generally learn better when they attend lessons on their own, with a few exceptions. It’s best to talk to me about what works best for your child.

Guidelines for parents sitting in – Please keep your cellphones on silent, observe the lesson and carry a book to read if needed. Please make notes if you have questions – there’ll be time to talk to me before the lesson ends.

Rules For In-Studio Students

  • Students and student families will use the teaching premises and pianos with care and food and liquids will be kept away from the pianos, and any studio equipment.
  • Students and student families have access to the teaching room and the washroom. All other rooms are private.
  • Parents/students will bear the cost of repair and/or replacement of any furniture, equipment, piano/s, or any other part of the studio and premises, which becomes necessary due to damage caused by them or a member of their family or their guests.
  • Health guidelines will apply if they are notified by local authorities.
  • Please use mild deodorants and perfumes for any in-studio events and refrain from spraying your clothes with perfume, as I am allergic to strong perfume.

Books To Be Purchased By Students

All books will be purchased by the student. Please purchase and use legal music and make sure composers can earn a living.

Fees

  • All fees and payments received are non-refundable. They are based on enrolment – not attendance – and they reserve your lesson slot.
  • Fees are charged for the paid lessons listed in The Lesson Schedule only. All other lessons, events & community meet-up’s are offered free.
  • Fees are accepted via NEFT or via Google Pay. Receipts for quarterly payments are emailed via a google form within two working days.

The Late Payment Fee compensates for the time and the expenditure incurred on rescheduling my payments. Monthly payments carry a Monthly Administration Fee to cover the cost of extra time spent on administration.
  • Fees for paid lessons will be refunded if I am unable to take lessons due to rare and unusual circumstances. Any free lessons withdrawn under these circumstances will not be rescheduled or made-up or compensated for in any other way.
