I wrote this poem during a moment of joy.
Not trying to see the glass half full, but rather seeing incompleteness and striving as a glass that IS full. As a reminder to myself.
May life bring me more of these moments during which I embrace the incompleteness of being human.
That wonderful feeling that you don’t know enough.
It’s what keeps you wanting to study and learn.
To strive to always be better today than you were yesterday.
That feeling that you never fit in.
Because you don’t live by rules imposed by the outside.
You’ve got an internal compass of your own and you’ve learned it’s wise to trust it.
And be comfortable with who you are.
That feeling that you’re not the best, and often not even close to the best.
It’s fine, because you’re the best that you could be.
You try, and that’s good enough for you.
That wonderful feeling that you’re quite un-exceptional,
It keeps you living with humility.
Grounded in reality and grateful for that one person who sees something special in you.
That feeling of aloneness when you’re in the midst of a crowd.
That quiet inside that comforts.
That you take with you everywhere you go.
The gratitude you feel when you look back and can see that failure led you to a better place.
That place meant for you.
Life pushes you there, whether you wish for it or not.
And you know that you need to accept and keeping trying.
And settle into your place with grace.
